Minestrone Soup and My Anniversary
My anniversary is the day before Valentines Day and I thought I’d take my wife out to a great local resturant her in Elk Grove, CA. I’ve had a few lunches there but till this past February 13th I’d never had the pleasure of dinning for dinner. The Brickhouse is a local Restaurant w/ a full bar owned by the Cassella brothers who not only reside in Elk Grove but have opened this fantastic business in the Old Town corridor of Elk Grove. They both are involved in the day to day dealings of running this successful local establishment and you can always find Papa Geno and his lovely wife there greeting all visitors.
Seated in a quite area with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend we enjoyed some drinks before dinner. I wasn’t sure what type of wine I wanted but a patron at the bar who new about wines offered me some suggestions. After enjoying our drinks we each ordered dinner which included a large bowl of endless salad and soup for us all.
Why I ordered dinner I’ll never know. The Minestrone Soup we ordered was home made and out of this world. I had bowl after bowl after bowl and was too full for all my steak which was cooked exactly like I asked. Next time I go for Lunch I think I’ll just order the Minestrone Soup. Now, I know Franco Cassella and his wonderful wife Amy so I did ask for the recipe. But just as I thought they said “sorry we can’t tell you that”. I think some things are just better kept to family secrets.
If you ever have a chance to visit the Brickhouse in Elk Grove, CA make sure to say hello to the Cassella Brothers and make sure to have the Minestrone. Bon Appetite
